Hard to believe our little Hailey Girl is 3 years old! This past Wednesday was her birthday and she was absolutely adorable! She had been talking about her birthday ever since Micah's clear back in October. It's so hard to wait when you are little! Soon after Christmas I started talking to her about her birthday and she quickly became convinced she had to have an Ariel birthday cake. With my own love ofThe Little Mermaid I had a hard time telling her sweet little face no, so I bought the cake pan and thought it would, well...be a piece of cake! FYI facial features are harder to do than you think. However, Hailey was plenty excited about it and that's all that really matters. The night before her birthday she could hardly stand it. She came out of her bed at 9:00 pm (I guarantee she hadn't been asleep yet) and asked, "is it my birthday yet?" The entire day she was such a joy and tremendously excited about each new present! Eric was able to take the afternoon off from work so as a family we went to Incredible Pizza. If you've never been there it is definitely a place to check out! My kids love it and even Olivia was perfectly content the whole time loving to watch all the lights from the games! Then my parents came over that night to celebrate with us and she was able to talk to Eric's parents thanks to Skype! Not to take away from my Hailey spotlight but I have to quickly mention how incredible Micah was the whole day. It can be hard to understand at such a young age that the party and presents aren't for you but Micah was a great brother the whole day! He was helpful and excited and just wanted to make Hailey's birthday a great day. He did start talking about what he wants for his birthday (poor kid doesn't realize how long he has to wait!) but we never had a single problem with him. Now back to Hailey...I'm not sure why but it seems like Hailey should have turned 3 a long time ago. It helps to have an older brother to learn from and she was talking like crazy at a young age but it seems like she should be getting ready to turn 4 soon! She continues to be a wonderful sister in both directions and it's fun to see how she acts with both her brother and her sister. Little did we know Hailey was a middle child LONG before she was actually a middle child! Her personality fits it and now it all makes sense! The other day she kept "play calling" Eric on the phone. After about the forth or fifth call Eric asked her why she kept calling. Without missing a beat she simply state, "I just need some attention." I truly believe that Hailey was sent into my life to make me a better mother and person. She has taught (and continues to teach me) great patience. Even in the womb I knew Hailey would be a much more active child. Her very energetic personality works both ways though. She is so bubbly and makes us laugh CONSTANTLY! Even as a baby Hailey has been a very social individual. She would go to complete strangers without hesitation. I've often joked that we have to keep a close eye on her because she wouldn't have to be tricked, she'd willingly go off with a kidnapper. (But then Eric retorts with saying that they'd end up offering us money to take her back!) Last summer we took Micah to the dentist and she would NOT leave until she gave the receptionist a hug goodbye. Luckily she was a sweet grandma type that was happy to indulge Hailey. Hailey is stubborn in a way that I think will get her really far in life. She is determined to do what she sets her mind out to do no matter what. She is always willing to fight for what she believes in. That, of course, makes it hard to be her mother at times but like I said before, I am learning great lessons from her all the time! I love this sweet little angel more than I ever thought possible and my heart still melts every time she tells me she loves me. I am so grateful Hailey Ann was brought into our lives 3 years ago and I look forward to what the future holds for her!

What a sweet post, Sarah! It is obvious how very much you love your children, and how amazing of a mother you are. Hailey was very lucky to be born into such a wonderful family. She is so cute. (And your cake turned out great!)
Sarah! That cake looks AMAZING!!! What a fun mom! I was excited when I saw your post on facebook that you were going to do an "Ariel" cake. Girl after both of our hearts! Ha ha!
