Proving 2 things

#1: I may have only been a mom for 3 1/2 years but I do know a thing or two (Even without an MD)
#2: When it really comes down to it...all that I know is that I know nothing! (Props to anyone who knows what that's from!)

Over the past 2 months Hailey has had 2 ear infections, her first ever so I considered ourselves lucky. I felt terrible though because I didn't realize she had one until Micah came down with it also and was able to tell me his ear hurt. She never pulled at her ears and didn't come down with a fever until later...all she did was cry and cry and cry. Well, with a child that does a great deal of crying even when she's healthy it's hard to know the difference. I mean, we all have bad days that we just want to cry, right? Well after 2 rounds of ear infections with her I thought I had a pretty good idea of her symptoms and how she reacted. So this week when she started to cry and cry and cry (along with some cough and congestion and she won't eat) I thought to myself, "she has another ear infection or something and I should take her to the doctor before it gets too bad this time." So I did...and she didn't. No ear infection, nothing. She is however doing a considerable amount of teething so the doctor just told me (and probably thinking I was an idiot) that was probably the cause of her irritability so just continue to give her Tylenol or Motrine. So here I am thinking I've lost my motherly groove and I can't even tell the difference between a sick child and one who is teething. Yesterday she worsened, small fever, sleeping less and crying more and I just kept thinking teeth teeth teeth! I did everything I could but it's not easy because the teeth she's getting are molars and are hard to get relief to. So Hailey continues to cry and needless to say I'm not far behind her. Meanwhile, Micah starts coughing and complaining his throat hurts. He was still playing and bouncing off the walls so I thought, "he's fine and is just seeking some of the attention Hailey has been receiving the past few days". Until this afternoon he came to me and told me he didn't feel well. And when Micah doesn't feel well it's obvious. The sparkle that his normally in his eyes disappears and he no longer as the energy to do anything but sit on the couch. I felt his head and sure enough he's burning up...101.7. I know that might not seem high to some of you but for a kid who NEVER runs a temperature that is pretty high. So back to my previous points...#1 I KNEW Hailey had something! It may not have been an ear infection, yet, but there is definitely something now affecting both my children. And #2 I obviously know nothing because here I thought Micah was attention seeking and he was actually sick. Mother of the year award right here!

If I woke up with this hair...I might cry too!

5 years!

Today is mine and Eric's 5 year anniversary! 5 YEARS! Wow! It's amazing how time flies but at the same time it feels like much longer than 5 years...in a good way! In my opinion Eric and I have a very interesting story...here's the Reader's Digest Version. We both were suppose to live different places but instead ended up in apartments 50 feet from each other. Eric was in his final year at BYU and on the list of things he was focussing on girls were last. I had just gotten out of a relationship so dating was something I desperately wanted to stay away from. Eric was not at all the type of guy I normally even dated (which should have been my first clue that I was making the right decision!). Logically everything told me to stay away from getting into a relationship but as most of you know logic plays no part in love. Eric knew right away we would get married, however, it took me a little longer to figure it out. And when I say a "little" I mean it because from the time we started dating to the time we were engaged was only 3 1/2 months and only another 3 1/2 months before we were married. To some I'm sure that is extremely fast, and looking back I'd have to agree, but it's what worked for us. Recently, Eric gave some advice to his sister that just got engaged. He told her to think about real things like, who would do the laundry and the dishes? She laughed but it's so true! I consider myself very lucky because our whirl-wind relationship didn't leave a lot of time to seriously talk about life and what we expected out of the basics! I knew Eric was a good man raised in a good family but I didn't realize how lucky I got. We never discussed our philosophy in raising children and it's interesting how similarly we agree on most things. Eric is a better father than I had ever imagined or wished for and it's obvious in how much our kids love him and want to be with him! Eric understands me so well it's almost scary at times. He puts up with my craziness and moods and never complains...well hardly ever! Considering we have very few common interests it's quite amazing how well we get along and how good our marriage works. Not to say that we don't have our moments. I hate those couples that talk about marriage like it's some kind of heaven on earth that is always perfect. They are either lying or in complete delusion. Marriage is not perfect but I love to be married and I love who I'm married to. I feel very blessed to have such a wonderful man in my life that I know will always take care of me and our family! So long story short...3 moves, a dozen or so jobs, 2 beautiful children, and 5 years later here we are!

Here are a few of our engagement pictures. Man we look so young! (I blame the kids for aging us!)

I don't want to forget

My good friend, Rachel, does a cute thing on her blog about things she doesn't want to forget as her kids grow older. I thought it was such a good idea so I am sorta copying her!

I don't want to forget...

...that even with all their differences they are still buddies!

...Micah LOVES to take pictures of everything and everybody!

...Hailey always tries to go the hardest way and then yells, "Guck! Guck!" ("Stuck")

...every time I try and take Hailey's picture Micah yells, "My turn!"

...Hailey is goofy! She now loves to wear Micah's hats then looks at me and smiles, as if to say, "Mom, look at me! I'm so cute!"

(This picture was just too cute not to include!)

...Hailey has spent MONTHS walking EVERYWHERE on her knees! Not her hands and knees, because she usually has something in each hand, but just her knees. It's the oddest thing and everyone who see it says, "I have never seen a child do that!" It's pretty funny. Although, it hurts my knees just to watch her do it! In the last few weeks she has finally started walking everywhere so I needed to capture the "knee walking" while she still did it. (It's funnier to really see her do it but I'm too lazy to figure out how to put video on here!)

Walks with Grandpa

Micah absolutely loves it when Grandpa Hansen comes to town and will never leave his side! This past weekend Eric's parents were in town for a short time and they took Micah on a walk...which he LOVED and Grandma got some great pictures!
